It has been the tradition of the city of Cagayan de Oro to celebrate its festivity with simultaneous events that starts on the first week of August. Some of the major events are the Garden Show and Agri Fair, Kumbira Culinary Show, Cowboy Festival Horse Show, Kahimunan Northern Mindanao: Food and Lifestyle Show, Miss Cagayan de Oro, The Kagay-an Festival Marathon, Cagayan de Oro Carnival Parade, The Higalas Parade of Floats and Icons, Higalaay Bisperas Fireworks Display, Religious Procession, Fluvial Procession, and Higalaay Pyrolympics.
The Kumbira Culinary Show which w regarded as the longest running annual culinary show and festival in the whole Philippines, is a 3-day event that encompasses live competitions such as Buffet Table Setting and Manu Folder, Noche Buena Platter, Artistic Bread Showpiece, Dessert Making, Chef Wars, Flair Bartending Tandem, and other live competitions such as dance and singing. There are also lots of art exhibits, musical instruments display ( last week I saw the cheektowaga that my guitarist son wanted so much ) and car displays.
The Cagayan de Oro Carnival Parade is the city’s street dancing competition where any of the barangays within the city can participate to compete for winning the Best Carnival Parade with their respective Carnival Queens.
The Higalas Parade of Floats and Icons, usually being participated among the city’s educational institutions, civic groups, fraternities and sororities, establishments and more, is being viewed by thousands of Kagay-anons and tourists that crowd the sides of the parade’s route. Drum and Bugle corps, competing floats and Cagayan de Oro icons are being paraded on the event.
Does your child have a real passion for music? If so, you may want to look into getting him or her into a youth orchestra. This would allow them to perform in front of a large audience. In recent years in UK and USA, demand for youth orchestras has increased. Some families even have to move closer to a City with a a youth orchestra, so their child can take part on it.
I am glad that in our city ( Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines ) , Lourdes College now offers music courses . There no need to go to the National Capital Region to study and earn Bachelor’s Degree in Music. The course provide opportunities for learning the theory and technique of creating and appreciating music, broadening musical taste and experience, and developing skills and criteria needed to evaluate music and musical performance. The department shares in Lourdes’ mission to offer artistic enrichment for the student as a whole and unique person.
Last December 24,on Christmas eve, me and my family got the chance to hear the beautiful rendition of Christmas songs through the Lourdes College Marinela Neri Velez String Orchestra of which a daughter of a friend plays the Cielo. It was held at a lobby for a 5-star hotel in the City. It was a short play but it made our day!
I would love to see a full orchestra concert someday. I love music, I play various instruments like piano, guitar and drums. For a change, I wish to learn how to play trumpet this 2016. I hope to see a good instrument from am online trumpet store . At my age , is it too late learn another musical instrument ?
e always enjoyed watching parades. Every city fiesta the family and I would always pick out the best spot by the road to watch the fiesta parade convoy; with unique presentations from different high schools and colleges of the city. Float parades and the dashing baton twirlers all eyes feasted with the different crafts and costumes. But what catches our ear is the rhythm of the drums, hearing them just sends dancing bones through everyone who hears them. Parades would never be how they without them, thanks to earth-shaking drum rolls of : african percussion instruments today.
This is what I heard from a group of students while dining in a restaurant last week. To be honest I have been to this place twice only. First was during it’s soft opening not so long ago ( Oh that was last year). What made it popular among students and young professional ? I guess the driving force behind lifestyle district are the diverse mix of hubs that cater’s not only to the young generation but also to the political and business world. The place hosts several establishments like restaurants, coffee and snack bars, videoke bar, gym and fitness centers, spas and beauty salons, medical clinics, hotel and an open area for acoustic music.
I have been to microphone hero and I love the place. I feel like music artist when I am singing at the place..LOL! With the state-of-the art sound system and belkin cable ties and microphones who would not love to sing their hearts out ?
So you might question why I am not a frequent visitor to the place ? Let’s talk about it on my next post. You might be an avid fan of their glass -enclosed smoking lounge or a student who is a frequent drinker of the bars or someone who publicly displays your affection to your partner ( who happens not to be your wife or girlfriend).. then you will not my post.
If you are thinking of buying a piano, guitar, bass, violin or some other instrument, you might consider buying a used musical instrument. Of course there are advantages and disadvantages of buying a used musical instrument . The major advantage, of course, is money savings. If you are patient enough and do a little research and ask lots of questions and read reviews, you can find a quality instrument at a very low price.
Personally, I have bought a lot of used musical instrument and accessories and until now they are still working. My latest purchased was a GIBSON electric guitar and a auralex bass trap. The guitar was from my brother-in-law’s friend who worked as a musician from Japan . Amazingly, I saved 70% off from a brand new unit. The bass trap was from a garage sale which I believe the seller does not know anything about the bass trap. He sold same as the price of a foot rug.
